Job summary

Legal Aid Society of Hawai'i is seeking two part-time law clerks (10 hours per week) to assist immigration attorneys with client representation, legal research and document preparation on Oahu.

Qualified students must be 2L/3L, committed to social justice, and able to work collaboratively with a diverse team. Position offers meaningful public-interest experience with paid vacation and sick leave.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled at an accredited law school as a 3L or 2L at the beginning of the internship.
• Located on Oahu
• Demonstrable commitment to social justice and public interest.
• Able to work collaboratively and maintain good working relationships with diverse team of co-workers.
• Culturally sensitive and able to work well with diverse, low-income populations.
• Strong personal work ethic and ability to organize time, manage diverse activities, and meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Able to work under pressure in an empathetic and professional manner.
• Basic computer skills required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office program (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conducting legal research
• Drafting memos
• Participating in client intakes and interviews
• Case preparation for affirmative filings with USCIS
• Assisting with preparation for immigration hearings
• Participate in outreach and education efforts.
