Job summary

Merit Health Flowood in Flowood, MS is seeking a Lactation Consultant RN to provide expert lactation care in inpatient and outpatient settings, assess needs, and collaborate with families and the healthcare team. You will develop individualized lactation care plans and support breast/chest-feeding parents throughout the care cycle.

The role involves teaching proper latch and pumping techniques, assisting with challenging cases, and coordinating discharge planning.

Qualifications

RN license and state licensure required.
IBCLC certification required.
BCLS, NRP, and NALS certifications required.
0–2 years of lactation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Provides specialized lactation care and clinical management for breastfeeding dyads and pumping parents.
Assesses patient and infant needs, developing individualized lactation care plans.
Teaches positioning, latch techniques, breast care, and pumping strategies.
Educates families on feeding cues and milk expression techniques.
Coordinates discharge planning and follow-up lactation support.
Attends deliveries and cesarean sections to initiate lactation support.
Maintains documentation in accordance with standards.
Reports concerns to leadership in a timely manner.
