Job summary

Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Albany, NY is hiring a part-time Animal Care Technician to provide specialized care and health monitoring for laboratory mice. You will support funded research projects under the direction of the research veterinarian and ARF facility manager.

The role requires about 2 years of relevant animal care experience, familiarity with ABSL-2 environments, and ability to work weekends. ACPHS offers a comprehensive benefits package and on-site work.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
• Approximately two years of relevant animal care experience, preferably with laboratory mice.
• Experience working in an ABSL-2 environment and be familiar with safety protocols.
• Preferred: AVMA-accredited Vet Tech or a biology/animal science bachelor's with 3 years in an animal research facility.
• Preferred: RVT/LVT license with LAT or LATG.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with ARF manager for facility issues and animal housing.
• Provide food, water, and basic husbandry for mice and rats.
• Monitor animals daily and record health status.
• Clean and sanitize cages and change bedding.
• Maintain cage cards and animal histories.
• Assist researchers with procedures and follow protocols.
• Practice safety, infection control, and PPE use.
• Support inspections and investigations as needed.
