Job Description
Under administrative leadership, part‑time faculty support the district’s vision, mission and values through classroom teaching, student evaluation, curriculum development, advising, professional development and program‑specific responsibilities. The position includes:
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition
- Bachelor’s in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition and Master’s in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or journalism
- Equivalent credentials
General Responsibilities
- Umoja Program Teaching – Teach sheltered English composition sections (C1000 in fall and C1001 in spring) within the Umoja cohort model and design culturally responsive curriculum grounded in experiences, histories and topics related to the Black and African Diaspora. Classes are scheduled on campus at Cuyamaca College on Tuesdays and Thursdays mornings.
- Umoja Co‑Coordinating – Coordinate the Umoja program with counseling faculty through recruitment, events, mentorship and collaboration. Coordination is fully supported and paid per agreement between the English and Counseling departments.
- Equity & Student Success – Demonstrate a strong commitment to the college’s mission, vision, values and strategic plan, including IDEAA principles and equitable access, retention and success for diverse student populations.
