Job description

The El Camino Community College District is now acceptingapplications for anticipated part-time faculty positions in thefollowing subject area for spring 2027: CHEM-4: BEGINNING CHEMISTRY Faculty job responsibilities include the development of classcurriculum to meet the requirements detailed in the Course Outlineof Record, conducting office hours at regularly scheduled days andtimes, and the assessment of learning outcomes to improve teachingand learning in achieving El Camino College's mission ofinstitutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, andvibrant student support services. Faculty assignments may include morning, afternoon, evening, orweekend hours. Dual enrollment, distance education, on-line orhybrid with required distance education certification assignmentsare voluntary. For faculty who are interested in teaching online orhybrid courses, completion of El Camino College's distanceeducation certification process is required or submission of awaiver with evidence of prior certification to develop and teachquality online courses. Faculty may participate in initiatives set forth by the Collegethat support students to achieve their educational goals throughcollaborations with employers, advisory committees, industry/tradegroups, universities, high schools, or other partnerships withrelated instructional disciplines.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

• Master's degree in chemistry; OR
• Bachelor's degree in chemistry AND a Master's degree inbiochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics; OR
• The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the requiredqualification(s) as stated on this announcement must complete theRequest For Equivalency Form as part of the application process toexplain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to thoseabove ; OR
• Valid California community college instructor credential inappropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 ( per CaliforniaEducation Code 87355 ); AND
• Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic,socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of communitycollege students and of individuals with disabilities.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Community college or equivalent teaching experience in chemistrylecture and laboratory courses.

SALARY:

Part-time faculty members are compensated on a semester basisaccording to the number of class hours assigned per semester and oncumulative semesters of instruction for the District. The beginningrate is $110.17 - $146.27 (lecture/extensive lab) per hourdepending on education and experience.

This is a part-time, temporary position for the 2027 springsemester, beginning February 2026. Assignments may include off-sitelocations.
