Job summary

Southeastern Freight Lines is seeking a part-time Inbound Freight Handler in South Houston, TX. You will load and unload freight, prepare trailers, and ensure safe handling using equipment such as forklifts and hand trucks. You will weigh/dimension shipments, plan cube utilization, and document shortages or damage.

You must have a High School Diploma or GED and be able to pass a background check and drug screen. Forklift experience or certification is preferred, as is prior dock/warehouse work.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
• Experience with forklift operation or forklift certification is preferred.
• Experience in a dock/warehouse/Material Handler role is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight onto and off equipment.
• Assist in recouping damaged freight.
• Prepare, sweep, inspect and clean trailers before loading freight.
• Use safe lifting techniques to load and unload freight.
• Select and operate forklifts, hand trucks, pallet jacks and related equipment.
• Weigh and dimension shipments for proper classification and handling.
• Plan cube utilization and correct weight distribution when loading.
• Count and inspect freight for shortages or damage.
• Review freight bills for special instructions; check manifests and labels against freight bills.
• Verify hazmat product descriptions and placarding when loading hazardous materials.
• Block and brace freight to prevent shifting during transport.
