Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a part-time Medical Imaging Assistant I to support nurses and technologists in delivering patient care. The role emphasizes safe transport, patient assessment, and efficient workflow within a multi-site hospital system.

The position requires 20 hours per week, 2–3 days, with a 6:30am–3pm shift and weekend rotation every 4th weekend. Strong communication, kindness, and adherence to infection control are essential as you contribute to high-quality imaging services.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR Certification within first 90 days.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Be flexible, versatile, reliable and a team player.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Possess intermediate computer skills.
  • Ability to start and maintain IV access for contrast administration.
  • Ability to perform EKGs.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development over the life span.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills to facilitate the flow of information.
  • Ability to manage the flow of information and communications for the department.
  • Facilitates care by ensuring a well-organized working environment.
  • Assist nurses and technologists through direct patient care.
  • Ensures timely transport of patients with proper use of transport aides and equipment.
  • Effectively communicates with health care team to coordinate patient care.
  • Assists in moving patients in and out of beds, wheelchairs, stretchers and exam tables.
  • Ability to perform lifting and transfer activities with proper body mechanics.
  • Adheres to Infection Control policies.
  • Provides pre-test information and instructions to patients.
  • Facilitates effective caregiver handoff communication.
  • Willingness to travel and learn workflow for three hospital sites.
  • Participate in the resolution of customer questions and concerns, collects necessary data.
  • Provides support in the acquisition and distribution of digital patient records.
  • Digitizes, formats and uploads film-based or digital images into PACS.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with PACS, Paragon, Emix, PenRad, Centricity, Workstation Centricity, T-Systems, MPF, SCU apps.
  • Provides timely and efficient service to physicians, staff and patients.
  • Fulfills requests for images and reports, ensuring availability in the system and following confidentiality protocols.
  • Performs other clerical duties as necessary.
  • Must possess excellent customer relations across age groups.
  • Maintains professionalism and teamwork to meet hospital goals.
  • Keeps environment safe and organized and completes mandated education.
  • Attends required staff meetings per department requirements.
  • Ability to dispense oral CT contrast for outpatients if CNA certified.
  • This position performs other duties as assigned.
