Job summary

College of Southern Nevada is seeking an Adult Basic Education/HSE instructor for the Division of Workforce and Economic Development. The role involves teaching Basic Skills, Pre-HSE, and HSE mathematics, maintaining records, and supporting learners toward HSE and post-secondary goals.

Responsibilities include collaborating with colleagues, participating in professional development, adhering to curricula, and employing effective teaching and assessment methods in a blended online/in-person

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, Literacy, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Experience teaching basic through intermediate level math or High School Equivalent testing preparation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft and Google Suite.
• Ability to work in and with a diverse population.
• Strong time-management skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Appreciation for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying backgrounds.
• Experience teaching in a hybrid classroom (online/in-person).
• Knowledge of educational technology and its use in classroom environments.
• Knowledge of IET/workforce programming.
• Ability to interpret and apply educational data to program standards and benchmarks.
• Knowledge of monitoring student progress using online programs such as TABE, CASAS, Aztec, and WorkKeys.

Responsibilities

• Teach Basic Skills, Pre-HSE, and HSE preparation, including HSE/GED/HiSET mathematics.
• Maintain and submit accurate student records such as syllabi, attendance, and weekly lesson plans.
• Motivate students to complete educational goals beyond basic education.
• Communicate and collaborate with colleagues regarding course offerings and program development.
• Attend professional development opportunities and staff meetings.
• Adhere to the prescribed curriculum and standards.
• Use and develop effective teaching techniques and assessment methods, including exams.
