Job summary

Rocky Mountains Distributing in Englewood, CO is seeking an experienced HR and payroll generalist for part-time on-site work. You will own payroll processes in Paychex, manage workers’ comp, and help coordinate business insurance and safety programs across Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming.

You’ll maintain compliant personnel records, support onboarding and offboarding, update policies, and assist with benefits renewals.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of HR generalist experience, payroll experience with Paychex preferred.
• Working knowledge of Colorado employment law; NM and WY experience is a plus.
• Experience supporting a workplace safety program and related compliance.

Responsibilities

• Own payroll inputs and accuracy in Paychex each pay period, including timecards and new hires.
• Run hiring logistics, onboarding, and departures, including I-9s and final pay.
• Maintain personnel files and a compliance calendar for CO, NM, WY.
• Serve as the first point of contact for staff concerns and performance discussions.
• Keep the employee handbook and policies current.
• Support annual benefits renewal and open enrollment.
• Coordinate workers’ comp and manage injury reporting and claims.
• Collaborate on safety program records and OSHA documentation.
• Coordinate business insurance and liability coverage with owner and broker.

Rocky Mountains Distributing, Englewood, CO. Part-time, 30 hours a week, on-site, with some schedule flexibility schedule and potential to grow to full-time as the role develops.

We’re an owner-led company of about 30 people that sells and services commercial foodservice equipment across Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico. Our technicians keep soft serve, shake, grill, and cooking equipment running for restaurants, schools, and franchise operators. We’re small enough that everyone knows each other, and we want to keep it that way as we grow.

We’re looking for an experienced HR and payroll generalist who wants meaningful part-time work. You’ll be the person our team trusts with people matters, and the person who keeps us organized and compliant across three states. You’ll also run payroll through Paychex, manage workers’ comp, help coordinate our business insurance with the owner and our broker, and handle the occasional general office request.

What you’ll do

• Own payroll inputs and accuracy in Paychex each pay period, including approved timecards, new hires, and approved pay changes, reviewed before submission
• Run hiring logistics, onboarding, and departures, including new-hire paperwork, I-9s, and final pay
• Keep personnel files complete and organized, and maintain a compliance calendar for Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming
• Be the first stop when employees have concerns, and help our leaders handle discipline, documentation, and hard conversations the right way
• Keep our handbook and policies current
• Support the annual benefits renewal and open enrollment
• Manage workers’ comp, including injury reporting, claims, and supporting the annual renewal
• Coordinate our safety program with operations, including driver record checks, safety training records, incident reporting, and OSHA recordkeeping
• Help coordinate our business insurance and liability coverage with the owner and our broker
• Handle the occasional general office or building request when it comes up
• Report to our GM and VP of Operations, with a direct line to the owner when needed

Who we’re looking for

• At least five years of HR generalist experience, including hands-on payroll (Paychex a plus), ideally at a smaller company where you handled things on your own
• Working knowledge of Colorado employment law; New Mexico or Wyoming experience is a plus
• Workers’ comp experience; knowledge of business insurance and liability is a plus
• Experience supporting a workplace safety program is a plus
• SHRM-CP or PHR preferred
• Real discretion with confidential information, and steady judgment when things get messy
• Comfortable telling leadership plainly when something isn’t right, then helping get it done
• Moves with urgency, gets it right the first time, and closes the loop without being reminded
• Holds others accountable, including leaders, and sets clear expectations
• Comfortable in a direct, high-standards environment where excellence is the expectation
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

Pay and benefits

• $34 to $42 per hour, based on experience
• 30 hours a week on-site in Englewood, with some schedule flexibility and potential to grow to full-time
