Job summary

Washtenaw Community College is seeking a part‑time Nursing instructor to teach in online, blended, and on‑site formats. The role involves creating safe classroom and clinical environments, guiding student learning, and meeting course objectives within the Instruction department in Michigan.

The ideal candidate will hold a BSN (MSN preferred), have an active Michigan RN license, and demonstrate strong communication and time‑management skills with experience in distance learning.

Qualifications

• BSN degree and Michigan RN license in good standing.
• MSN degree preferred; doctorate not required.
• Two years’ experience in extended care or hospice.
• Ability to teach online, blended, and face‑to‑face.
• Flexibility with weekend scheduling and distance learning.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain a safe classroom/lab/clinical environment.
• Instruct assigned course(s) with appropriate learning experiences.
• Adhere to syllabus and curriculum/assessment guidelines.
• Evaluate student progress and assign final grades.
• Support student success through advising and guidance.
• Participate in department meetings and professional activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Description:

Essential Duties include:

• Establish and maintain a safe classroom/laboratory/clinical environment conducive to student learning.
• Prepare for and instruct assigned course(s) through the use of appropriate learning experiences and materials which provide the opportunity to meet overall course objectives and program goals.
• Adhere to course syllabus and comply with curriculum and assessment guidelines.
• Evaluate student progress through day-to day-evaluation, written examinations and overall observation.
• Grade assignments in a meaningful way to promote continued student growth, returning graded assignments to students in a timely manner, and assigning final grades for all students, meeting or beating all institutional deadlines for completion.
• Actively support student success through guidance, advising and assisting individual students as needed.
• Participate in professional activities, which could include, but are not limited to, curriculum planning, examination development, textbook selection, program evaluation/revision and other professional planning activities.
• Participate in the Student Opinion Questionnaire ( SOQ ) process.
• Maintain levels of professional knowledge and expertise, including compliance training.
• Participate in Department Meetings
• Participate in high school parent teacher conferences, open house events, and community partner events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Hours/Schedule:

• Schedules vary according to class schedules. Part time Instructors may teach up to (8) eight contact hours per week or 120 contact hours per semester. The terms of employment are based on college enrollment and class enrollment. Some opportunities will require travel to Chelsea High School five (5) days a week.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing ( BSN ) degree.
• Current Michigan Registered Nurse License in good standing.
• Previous work experience which includes two (2) year in extended care facility or hospice.
• Ability to teach online, blended, and face-to-face.
• Ability to teach a flexible schedule that may include some weekends.
• Ability to appropriately use standard office and instructional software and tools.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and time management skills.
• Recent, successful, post-secondary teaching experience in HSC courses.
• Master of Science in Nursing ( MSN ) degree.
• Current State of Michigan Nurse Aide Trainer permit
• Curriculum and assessment experience, including distance learning and online course design, development, and delivery method experience preferred.
• American Heart instructor certification
