Job summary

Community Action Commission Of Santa Barbara County seeks a Classroom Food Assistant at Meridian Head Start Center in Santa Maria, CA. This regular part-time role assists with serving meals, classroom support, and food handling to ensure safe and nutritious meals for children.

You'll work 30 hours per week with benefits, starting wage between $16 and $17 per hour. The position emphasizes teamwork, safety, and compliance with nutrition and child care policies.

Qualifications

• Prior experience with food handling.
• Experience with preschool children and/or related course work in Early Childhood Education desirable.

Responsibilities

• Keeps kitchen areas and classrooms clean and sanitary and organized, following program policies.
• Completes all required CCFP documentation including food arrival and serving temperatures, delivery receipts, meal count and menu comments.
• Completes paperwork for meal count.
• Supports family style mealtimes.
• Demonstrates knowledgeable about food and the nutrition concepts.
• Assists with cooking projects and food learning experiences with children.
• Attends training and/or meetings as assigned in food preparation and handling regulations.
• Assists teachers in carrying out activities for children in the program.
• Meets on a monthly basis with the education staff to plan activities to meet the needs of the children in the program.
• Attends parent meetings and home visits when requested.
• Is aware off all the centers children with food allergies and ensures they receive substitutions as recommended by doctor.
• Functions as a positive team member. Communicates effectively with families and co-workers.
