Springfield Urban League, Inc. is seeking a Bus Monitor for the 0-5 Head Start program at the Apple Orchard Site in Springfield, IL.

The position emphasizes safe daily transportation of children and compliance with Head Start guidelines. Responsibilities include sign-in/out, helping children load and unload the bus, securing car seats, verifying approved contacts with photo ID, and assisting in communicating with parents.

Qualifications

• Must be 19 years of age.
• Able to work with children, staff, parents and others.
• Must be willing to work a split shift.
• Must meet DCFS requirements including a background check.
• Must be able to pass a medical exam certifying freedom from communicable diseases and illegal substances.
• Must be able to obtain CPR Certification and First Aid Certification.
• Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Sign in/out when arriving and departing Head Start Sites.
• Assist children to load and unload the School Bus.
• Ensure all children are completely secure in child safety restraints after the child sits down on the School Bus.
• Ensure release of children only to a person over the age of 16 that is on the approved contact list for that child. This is done by checking a Photo ID for the person.
• Assist the School Bus Driver in notifying parents of pertinent information by aiding in distributing fliers, notices, etc.
• Assist in maintaining accurate records on children that are riding the Bus that they are a monitor on.
• Assist children, if needed, to or from their pick-up or drop-off address.
• Complete a full walk through of the entire School Bus before exiting the School Bus following the route.
