Job summary

City of Omaha is hiring a part-time grounds maintenance worker to perform outdoor maintenance tasks across parks and public properties. The role requires physical labor, operating and inspecting park equipment, and following safety procedures.

Job duties include mowing, weed control, snow removal, flower bed work, fence maintenance, and basic equipment repairs. A high school diploma is preferred, with pre-employment checks as standard.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand oral or written instructions.
• Must adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public.
• Ability to balance, stand, walk, and lift for up to eight hours or more; reach, bend, kneel, and crawl as required.
• Ability to move objects up to 100 pounds of force up to 33% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Mows grass and pulls or sprays weeds.
• Sweeps and picks up refuse and debris from streets, parks, and other public property.
• Shovels snow and spreads salt and gravel.
• Prepares flower beds by digging, raking, mulching leaves, and watering.
• Installs or repairs fences and performs minor maintenance like painting park equipment.
• Assists with disassembly, repair or replacement, and operation of equipment and adds chemicals as needed.
• Maintains inventories of cleaning and maintenance supplies.
• Monitors greenhouse thermostats.
• Maintains regular attendance per supervisor schedule.
• Performs other related duties as assigned within the classification.
