Job summary

Smart & Final is seeking a Part-Time Associate at our Modesto, CA store (588 Modesto). You will assist customers, stock shelves, operate the cash register, and keep the store clean and safe.

Starting pay is $16.90 per hour. You should be able to lift up to 60 pounds and communicate effectively in English. Prior basic PC/Outlook skills are a plus. We offer 401(k) retirement benefits and continuing education benefits.

Qualifications

• Read and comprehend simple instructions, product labels, pricing codes, shelf tags, short correspondence, and memos.
• Write simple correspondence.
• Effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations.
• Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 45 pounds, and occasionally up to 60 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a store section, order, receive, and stock merchandise; assure proper pricing and rotation; stock shelves and other displays; prepare perishable products; set up advertising/promotional displays; review invoices for accuracy.
• Cleans and maintain sanitation standards in all interior and exterior areas of the store and parking lot.
• Operate a cash register; receive payment; make change; process check/charge/debit transactions; process refunds when approved; verify customer eligibility when selling alcoholic beverages.
• Offer friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and courteous assistance to customers; load customer purchases when requested.
• Perform basic bookkeeping duties; record lost/damaged goods and store supplies using appropriate tools.
