CarePartners is seeking a dependable, organized, and creative Part-Time Food Service Coordinator to support food service at our Dementia Day Center. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a kitchen environment, interacting with older adults, and bringing a little creativity to the dining experience.
Our Day Center uses a prep kitchen with catered meals, so this is not a traditional cook or chef position. The Food Service Coordinator is responsible for helping ensure meals, snacks, special diets, food safety, and kitchen operations run smoothly.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate weekly meal and food orders with our food-service vendor.
- Prepare for and assist with catered lunch service.
- Work with the Day Center nurse to ensure special diets and dietary accommodations are followed.
- Maintain appropriate food-safety, sanitation, storage, labeling, and temperature-control practices.
- Monitor food and kitchen supplies and maintain an organized, well-stocked prep kitchen.
- Prepare, replenish, and clean up snack and refreshment service as needed.
- Clean and sanitize food-service areas and equipment, including washing dishes following meal service.
- Communicate periodically with the organization's dietitian regarding menus, dietary requirements, and food-service needs.
- Coordinate food and catering orders for member celebrations, family events, meetings, and other occasional organizational needs.
- Help plan and lead occasional food-related activities or demonstrations for Day Center members.
- Interact warmly with individuals living with dementia and use appropriate cueing, redirection, and communication techniques.
- Work collaboratively with Day Center staff to create a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable mealtime experience.
We're Looking for Someone Who
- Is dependable and comfortable independently managing recurring responsibilities.
- Is organized and able to keep track of orders, inventory, dietary needs, and deadlines.
- Understands or is willing to learn food-safety and sanitation requirements.
- Enjoys working with older adults and is comfortable interacting with individuals living with dementia.
- Is creative and interested in making food and mealtimes engaging and enjoyable.
- Is comfortable with hands-on kitchen responsibilities, including setup, serving, cleanup, and dishwashing.
- Communicates well with vendors, staff, participants, and families.
- Can adapt when needs change and work collaboratively as part of a team.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous food service, catering, senior living, healthcare, hospitality, or related experience preferred.
- Food-handler or food-safety certification preferred; ability to obtain required certification upon hire.
- Experience working with older adults or individuals living with dementia is a plus, but training can be provided.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of food-service and kitchen work.
Why This Role Is Different
This is a small but important role within our Day Center. You won't spend your day cooking behind a restaurant line. You'll help create an organized, safe, and welcoming food experience for adults living with dementia while working with a team committed to helping participants have meaningful and enjoyable days.
