Description

The Carpenters Training Center (CTC) is seeking a skilled and knowledgeable Flood Mitigation Instructor to join our team on a part‑time basis. The instructor will deliver hands‑on training to members, equipping them with the technical expertise and practical skills needed to execute flood mitigation tasks in real‑world environments. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in flood mitigation, including site preparation, installation techniques, and maintenance, all while ensuring compliance with approved safety standards. The role will focus on guiding members through the correct use of flood mitigation systems, ensuring they are prepared to respond effectively during flood situations.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver flood mitigation training programs that align with industry standards and safety protocols.
  • Provide hands‑on instruction in flood mitigation methods, including setup, application, and the deployment of flood mitigation structures.
  • Train members on proper site preparation, grouting, leveling, anchor bolting, and the installation of expansion shield anchors while fostering a safety‑first culture by adhering to safety guidelines and promoting best practices in every aspect of training.
  • Ensure members understand how to maintain and deploy gaskets and other essential flood mitigation components, ensuring operational readiness in non‑emergency situations.
  • Teach members how to install and maintain various types of flood mitigation doors (e.g., swing doors), along with frame installation and preparation of concrete surfaces.
  • Evaluate member performance through practical assessments, providing constructive feedback to enhance skill development.
  • Stay current with trends, new technologies, and best practices in flood mitigation to ensure the program remains relevant and effective.
Requirements

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; certifications in flood mitigation or a related field preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience in flood mitigation or related trades.
  • In‑depth knowledge of flood mitigation systems, materials, and safety standards.
  • Familiarity with manufacturer guidelines for various flood mitigation systems and the ability to teach others to follow these protocols. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively teach technical concepts to a diverse group of learners.
  • Basic proficiency in using computers, tablets, and related software to manage training materials and evaluations.
Required Skills & Competencies
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in delivering detailed technical instruction.
  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Detail‑oriented, with a strong commitment to safety standards and attention to proper execution of tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively in confined spaces, with a clear understanding of health and safety considerations, including the handling of lubricants and silica safety protocols.
  • Ability to collaborate with learners and staff from diverse backgrounds to create a supportive learning environment.
