Job summary

Bethany Athletic Club’s childcare center, Bkids, seeks a Float Teacher to supervise, nurture, and care for children from 6 weeks to 5 years old in a busy Portland program. The role focuses on Infants/Wobbler and Toddler/Preschool coverage in the afternoon, with shifts from 2:00–5:30 p.m. and occasional 8:15 a.m.–5:15 p.m.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must meet Oregon Child Care Licensing Division requirements for the position.
• Must be enrolled in or eligible for enrollment in the Central Background Registry.
• Previous childcare experience preferred.
• Must complete required CPR/First Aid and Oregon child care health and safety trainings.
• For Teacher-qualified positions, applicants must meet one of Oregon’s approved education, Registry, credential, or qualifying experience pathways.

Responsibilities

• Provide afternoon classroom support in our Infant and Wobbler classrooms.
• Maintain required teacher-to-child ratios and provide coverage as staffing needs change throughout the afternoon.
• Support diapering, feeding, bottles, naps, transitions, and other daily care routines.
• Engage children in age-appropriate play, sensory experiences, gross motor activities, and positive teacher-child interactions.
• Assist lead teachers with classroom organization, cleaning, sanitizing, and end-of-day closing responsibilities.
• Communicate professionally with teachers, families, and administrative staff.
• Follow all BKids policies, licensing requirements, health and safety procedures, and classroom routines.
• Provide additional classroom coverage when teachers are absent or on vacation.
