The Shelbyville Fire Department is accepting applications for part-time firefighters.
General Duties:
- This position reports to the fire captain or fire sergeant.
- Part-time work is based on the availability of open shiftsand is typically served in 12 or 24-hour duty blocks.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Emergency response duties such as fire suppression, responding to medical calls, and conducting vehicle extrication operation
- Assisting with building inspections, fire prevention activities, and public relations efforts
- Maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe work environment
- Ensuring that all apparatus and equipment are properly cleaned, inspected, and maintained in operational readiness
- Accurately preparing and maintaining required reports and records.
Education and Certification Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18years of age by date of application
- A high school diploma or general educational development (GED) certificate
- A valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky
- Must possess and maintain the following certifications:115-hour certification, 300-hour certification, and the IFSAC Firefighter I and II established and certified by the Kentucky Fire Commission are preferred but not required.
- Emergency Medical Technician Certification (EMT-B or EMT-A or P) as established and certified by the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services (KBEMS)
- Certificates from the US Department of Homeland Security/FEMA that include NIMS IS-100, 200, 700 and 800.
- OSHA 1910: 120/NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations Level Certification
- Successful completion of an internal fire candidate physical agility course and an internal written exam with a passing score of 75%. The exam will be comprised of material from the latest version of the IFSTA Essentials of Firefighting, Firefighter I curriculum. IFSAC Firefighter I will be accepted in lieu of written exam. If an agility test has been completed within the last six months, no agility test will be required.
Salary: $18.91/hour. Compensated for call-back events and training events. Part-time firefighters who are already enrolled in the CERS pension system will also get pension credit for time worked in this position.
