A local municipality in Delaware, Ohio is seeking part-time Firefighters/EMTs to respond to emergencies and maintain equipment. Job description

Description

The Firefighter/EMT is responsible for responding to emergency scenes, mitigating emergencies, maintaining Fire Department equipment, maintaining knowledge of the operation of Fire Department equipment, and understanding of the response area. They must also have a solid performance history, high productivity, and good attendance. Berlin Township strives to hire our full-time Firefighters from our part-time ranks.

Part time firefighters work a schedule rotating every 6th day assigned to a specific unit. This is a 24-hour position with a start time of 0800hrs. Currently we need to hire a minimum of three personnel to work in this role. There may be other opportunities available in the future. We will be establishing a list for which to hire for 2026, or until the list is exhausted. Starting pay is currently $16.58/hour with an annual raise expected in January.

The yearly limit of 1,950 hours worked in a calendar year.

Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. Valid Ohio Driver’s License with no more than 4 points
  3. State of Ohio Firefighter I certification (Firefighter II preferred)
  4. State of Ohio EMT-Basic certification
  5. Hazardous Materials Operations certificates
  6. Valid CPR Certification

  • Copies of FF I or FF II, EMT, CPR certifications, and Haz Mat certificates.
  • Copy of valid Ohio Driver’s License.

Hiring Process

The hiring process will include a written test, physical ability testing, and an in-person interview. The testing and interview will be conducted on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the Berlin Township Fire Department at 2708 Lackey Old State Road, Delaware, Ohio, 43015. Candidates will receive an email confirmation of their placement for the testing process. Those passing the Written Exam will be moved to the Physical Abilities Testing (PAT). Those passing the PAT will be scheduled for an interview to be conducted immediately following. Successful candidates will be required to submit a background check and medical physical including drug and nicotine screen.
