Job summary

Tuscaloosa City Schools seeks a High School Teacher to facilitate student understanding and application of concepts, skills and behaviors contributing to mature, responsible citizens.

Requirements include a B.S. degree in the instructional area, Alabama teaching certification, and meeting the No Child Left Behind highly qualified criteria; familiarity with the Alabama Child Protection Act is also expected. Strong communication and classroom management are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a B.S. Degree in the area of instructional responsibility required.
• Alabama State Department of Education Teaching Certification in the area of instructional responsibility required.
• Must meet the “highly qualified” criteria as defined by “No Child Left Behind Act of 2001”
• Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

Responsibilities

• Assesses student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives, student outcomes.
• Develops and implements a program of instruction that meets the individual needs and abilities of students and is consistent with system and state courses of study.
• Plans and implements a variety of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities which serve the needs and capabilities of the students.
• Manages the behavior of learners in the classroom and participates in the management of student behavior in other parts of the school.
• Communicates to students and parents the instructional expectations, student progress or lack of progress.
