Job summary

City of Huntington Beach is seeking a part-time, non-permanent Fire Prevention/Community Risk Reduction Department Assistant. The role involves fieldwork, inspections, and administrative tasks supporting the Fire Department.

Must be able to work a minimum of 18 hours per week and represent the department professionally in public settings. Under mentorship, you will perform life safety inspections, assist with public records requests, and support community engagement events.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; college enrollment in relevant fields recommended.
• 1 year of fire department experience is highly desirable; OSFM Fire Inspection 1A-1D desirable.
• Customer service experience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Initial contact and appointment processing.
• Follow up inspections on minor fire code violations.
• Assist with community risk reduction home safety inspections and smoke alarm installations.
• Prepare reports and communications; assist with public education programs.
• Perform life safety inspections for R2 facilities.
