Job summary

West Edge Opera is seeking a part-time Finance Director in the SF Bay Area to manage internal reporting, budgeting, and compliance for a growing nonprofit opera company. The role supports payroll, cash flow, and grant reporting, with a transition plan through 2027 budget development.

Ideal candidates will have nonprofit accounting experience, strong Excel skills, and proficiency with QuickBooks, ready to work across multiple source systems and collaborate with a small, dedicated team.

Qualifications

• Very strong Excel skills with pivot tables, vlookups, charts.
• Understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting basics.
• Experience with zero-based budgeting.
• Familiarity with QuickBooks data structure is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Internal reporting to the Board, Finance Committee and staff on financial health and status.
• Prepare financial statements: Income/Expense and Balance Sheet.
• Develop budgets and monitor actuals vs. budget with quarterly forecasts.
• Complete 990 federal tax filing and related CA state filings.
• Manage payroll, payments, and cash flow; monitor cash position.
• Maintain Chart of Accounts and program structures in QuickBooks.
• Support contracts, software selection, and investment monitoring.
• Ensure financial controls and comply with policies.
