Job summary

Penn State seeks a student field technician to support terrestrial LiDAR data collection in forest environments. You will lay out scanning locations with measuring tools, move reflectance targets, and hike to plots while carrying equipment, contributing to real-world laser scanning projects.

Ability to navigate in natural forests, hike off-trail up to two miles, and work independently in challenging field conditions is preferred. Background checks will apply as part of University employment.

Job Duties

  • Assist with real-world data collection using a high-end laser scanning sensor.
Qualifications
  • At least one year of undergraduate studies in forestry or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to navigate and measure distances and directions (azimuths) in natural forests.
  • Ability to hike off-trail for up to two miles while carrying equipment with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to work independently in challenging field conditions is highly desired.
Background Checks/Clearances
  • Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
  • This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties.
  • A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
