Job summary

WSP is seeking a part-time Experienced Archaeologist with 3-5+ years of field and project experience for work in Arizona and New Mexico, joining our Earth & Environment Cultural Resource Team. You will contribute to fieldwork, digital data collection, and reporting while supporting NEPA, NHPA, NAGPRA and related laws across the West.

The role involves travel to sites in AZ/NM with potential future projects in neighboring states; you’ll perform surveys, data prep, and contribute to IMACS forms,

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree (MS/MA preferred) in Archaeology, Anthropology, History or related field.
• Minimum 3-5 years of professional level experience researching, analyzing, developing and managing archaeological and historic preservation plans, staff and resources.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of cultural resources and environmental regulations.
• Working knowledge of North American archaeology.
• Experience with NHPA, ARPA, NAGPRA, and relevant state laws.
• Ability to perform pedestrian survey and carry up to 25 lbs. of personal gear and company equipment.
• Ability to survey in hot and dry high-desert conditions
• Experience identifying and analyzing a wide variety of archaeological materials from prehistoric and historic-period archaeological sites in the field.
• Must be willing to travel to a remote project location for 10-day rotations and possibly camp
• Must pass background check and successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening

Responsibilities

• Participation in Class I-Class III assessments and avoidance recommendations
• Participating in and/or contributing to heritage/cultural resource investigations in support of our clients’ projects.
• Will travel to project sites Arizona and New Mexico. Per diem will be provided.
