Job summary

Valencia College is seeking part-time faculty in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences to teach designated humanities courses across several campuses (East, Lake Nona, West, Downtown, Osceola, Winter Park, and Poinciana). Face-to-face and mixed-mode teaching will be used, and candidates must meet master’s degree requirements with relevant humanities coursework.

School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Valencia College

What are the Position Requirements:
  • A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in one of the following disciplines: Art History; History; Humanities; Interdisciplinary Studies or Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Humanities; Literature; Music History or Musicology; Philosophy; or Religion or Theology; OR a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with at least 18 graduate semester hours in one or more of the disciplines listed above. General Position Description

Primarily responsible for teaching in discipline or discipline areas in which he/she has specific training and/or competence. Essential Job Functions

1. Prepares and delivers instruction to students in assigned modalities (including classroom, hybrid, online, etc.). Prepares instructional materials. Provides feedback on students’ progress, including evaluation of student mastery of course and program outcomes.

2. Provides feedback to students in matters related to academic success in a timely manner.

3. Prepares and submits required documentation including course syllabi, student attendance, final course grades, and other information as requested or required by the college.

4. Maintains and disseminates current information pertaining to services available to students throughout the college.

5. Is familiar with and maintains behavior and actions consistent with college policies.

6. Maintains professional development/growth according to personal needs and requirements for certification.

General Working Conditions

This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-15 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects at close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to frequently using discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.
