Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, is currently accepting applications for possible openings for a part‑time faculty member teaching foundational topics in game design, programming and interactive technology.

In particular, we are seeking an instructor to teach TECH 295, a class that covers Mixed Media & Board Game Design. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate students.

During the academic year part‑time faculty at Montgomery College may teach no more than 11.5 ESH (equivalent semester hour) per semester and no more than 23 ESH per academic year. During summer part‑time faculty at Montgomery College may teach no more than 10 ESH (equivalent semester hour) for both sessions combined.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Instructional Delivery: Teach introductory and/or advanced courses in computer gaming, simulation and interactive media in various modalities (in person, hybrid, and/or online).
  • Curriculum Integration: Incorporate emerging technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) along with tabletop and board game design principles into the instructional framework.
  • Student Mentorship: Guide students through practical project‑based learning and assist students in building professional portfolios for the gaming industry.
  • Assessment and Grading: Develop syllabi, assign coursework, maintain accurate academic records, and provide timely, constructive feedback on student work using the college's learning management system (Blackboard).
Required Qualifications:
  • A masters degree in Game Design, Computer Science, Interactive Media, Education, Counseling or a masters degree in any field plus interactive media industry experience.
  • Technical proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency in immersive technology frameworks.
  • Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting belonging, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Industry Experience: Professional experience working in the gaming, software development or simulation industry.
  • Experience working with, or developing with AR or VR technologies.
  • Teaching, Counseling or leadership experience: professional experience in the fields of teaching, counseling or leadership.
  • For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your education equivalency, conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service, must be included in your application.
  • Employees must live in Maryland or a state where the College has payroll reciprocity (DC, VA, PA, WV, DE, MA).

Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus). If you do not have access to a personal computer, please notify the department chair at the time of interview. Subject to available funds, the college may be able to provide temporary access to resources.
