Job summary

The City of Three Rivers Police Department seeks a highly organized Evidence Custodian to manage evidence and property in Department custody. This civilian, part-time role will lead an initial comprehensive audit, strengthen procedures, and ensure strict chain of custody and confidentiality.

Responsibilities include receiving, labeling, storing, and disposing of evidence per policy, maintaining detailed records, and coordinating with officers and laboratories.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate department vehicle.
• Successful completion of background investigation and pre-employment screening.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and detailed records.
• Strong organization and communication skills.
• Ability to learn computerized records and evidence-management systems.

Responsibilities

• Conduct a comprehensive initial audit and inventory of the evidence room; reconcile items with records.
• Identify discrepancies and work to resolve findings with the Chief of Police or designee.
• Review storage, security, access, retention, and chain-of-custody practices; write findings and recommendations.
• Develop and update evidence/property policies, forms, and procedures; identify training needs.
• Receive, document, package, label, store, safeguard, retrieve, transfer, release, and dispose of evidence per policy.
• Maintain records of item location, status, movement, chain of custody, and disposition.
• Coordinate with MS laboratories and investigators; ensure chain-of-custody during transport.
