Job summary

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking an Events Captain to assist in the production and execution of public, private, and internal events, from setup through fulfillment. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent communication, and the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment.

You will serve as the main client contact, coordinating with guests, vendors, and Zoo staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 19 years old.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Willing to obtain TIPS certification within first three months of employment.
• Experience in Event Planning/Management, Food and Beverage service or prior hospitality experience is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Follow zoo policies and standards.
• Serve as a positive representative of the zoo to guests and vendors.
• Handle guest inquiries and provide excellent customer service.
• Obtain event information and necessary equipment/supplies.
• Set up and tear down tables, chairs, signage, tents, and other event needs.
• Communicate team goals, timelines, and expectations before and during events.
• Lead event staff, provide resources, and assist as needed.
• Escort vendors/guests and coordinate with Zoo staff for logistics.
• Ensure bar, food handling, and cleanliness standards are met.
• Operate cash register and handle payments.
• oversee event logistics, staffing, and equipment availability.
• Ensure security and safety of facilities and attendees.
