Job summary

New River Community and Technical College seeks a part-time Workforce Instructor in Automotive Service Technology for evening classes at the Mercer County Vo-Tech Center, reporting to the Dean, Workforce, Technical, and Community Education.

The instructor provides hands-on, competency-based instruction, develops syllabi, maintains student records, ensures safety, and builds ties with local service providers to expand employment opportunities.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree or Industry Certificate in Automotive Service Technology.
Five years of full-time employment experience directly related to automotive technology.
ASE certifications in electrical/electronics, steering & suspension, brakes, engines, and HVAC are required.
Ability to teach both onsite and online formats.

Responsibilities

Possess thorough and accurate knowledge of automotive technology.
Develop instructional materials; plan and organize instruction; prepare syllabi; teach classes.
Meet classes as scheduled.
Be accessible to students via email, phone, and office hours.
Evaluate student work and maintain records of academic standing.
Provide timely feedback to students.
Maintain safety standards in shop activities.
Provide hands‑on, competency‑based instruction.
Follow lesson plans and support student learning.
Develop relationships with local automotive service providers for student employment opportunities.
