Job summary

City of Lubbock is seeking an Automotive Maintenance Assistant to support technicians across a variety of vehicles, from cars to heavy equipment. You will learn routine preventive maintenance and perform tasks under supervision to keep the fleet in service.

The role requires a high school diploma and valid Texas driver's license. You may assist in parts handling, shop housekeeping, and basic vehicle preparation, working closely with the Maintenance Shop staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 1 year of automotive repair/maintenance experience.
• Basic knowledge of automotive service techniques and use of mechanic tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic maintenance work under supervision.
• Assist in collecting data for shop productivity reports.
• Move vehicles to/from auction lot, Radio Shop, and vendor locations.
• Strip vehicles of decals and equipment for decommissioning and auction prep.
• Help with make ready process on new vehicles (decals, plates, accessories).
• Track and receive parts deliveries; assist in parts inventory and ordering.

Job description

Assists technicians repairing a variety of automobiles, trucks, and heavy equipment. Learns and performs routine preventive maintenance duties requiring limited experience.

• Perform basic maintenance work under the supervision of the Maintenance Shop Supervisor and Lead Equipment Technicians;


• Work with the Service Writer on collecting data for the shop’s productivity reports;


• Assist in moving vehicles to and from the auction lot, the Radio Shop, and vendor locations;


• Strip vehicles of decals and other equipment for decommissioning and auction preparation;


• Help carry out Fleet’s make ready process on new vehicles, including decals, license plates ,and other vehicle accessories;


• Track and receive partsdeliveries;


• Deliver and receive parts to and from vendor locations for items not kept in the parts inventory;


• Help the Parts Staff inthemonthly parts inventory cycle counts andpartsordering asnecessary;


• Support the Administrative Staff in maintaining the Motor Pool Vehicles;


• Clean, sweep, and washthe shop floor when needed;


• Perform related duties as directed.

Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional one year of experience in automotive repair and maintenance; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:

Valid TX Driver's License
Physical Exam Required

Knowledge of:

• Basic techniques of automotive service and use of mechanictools.

Ability/Skill to:

• Perform basic auto service and repair;


• Use pneumatic tools and tiremachine;


• Communicate effectively with others.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequently lift and carry 10 to 20 pounds;


• Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds;


• Frequently stand and walk during theshift;


• Occasionally push and pullobjects;


• Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at theknees;


• Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing;
