Job Description

TITLE: Reading Interventionist

POSITION TYPE: TCHR

Basic Function: Responsible for planning and delivering a high‑quality educational program to meet children’s academic and social‑emotional needs.

Essential Functions
  • Deliver daily lessons aligned to state and district standards that meet students’ individual needs and ensure growth.
  • Create a culturally inclusive classroom that meets the academic and social‑emotional needs of students.
  • Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan instruction, analyze data, and create assessments.
  • Monitor student learning daily and use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
  • Communicate with families regularly.
  • Participate in professional development.
  • Demonstrate consistent progress in meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards.
Additional Essential Functions (for every DMPS position)
  • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  • Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid Iowa teaching license (K‑6 Classroom or K‑8 Reading).
  • Knowledge of subject, curriculum, and effective teaching methods.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communications.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous classroom teaching experience.
  • Experience in an urban school district.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying. Mostly indoors with occasional outdoor responsibilities during recess and arrival/dismissal.
