Under the supervision of the ESL teacher and administrators, the assistant provides instruction, collaborates with teachers, and helps administer tests.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or 2 years of higher education.
• Teaching or teaching assistant experience preferred.
• Experience working with children and/or young adults.
• Knowledge of the English language.
• Desire to work with children or young adults.

Responsibilities

• Provides students with introductory, supportive and/or supplemental instruction, and remediation and/or reinforcement of English language skills under the direction of the English Language Development (ELD) teacher (previously known as ESL teacher).
• Confers regularly with the classroom teacher to share student progress and to plan for future needs.
• Works with the classroom teacher to provide ESL students with accommodations and modifications to the regular classroom curricula.
• Helps train new ELD personnel in daily responsibilities.
• Works with students on preparation of special assignments, projects, tests and finals.
• Helps administer classroom or district-level tests.
• Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
