Job summary

Douglas County School District is seeking an Educational Assistant (EA IV) for the Affective Needs program at Trailblazer Elementary. This part-time role focuses on providing intensive behavioral and emotional support to students with affective needs, including crisis intervention and data tracking under IEP guidance.

The position requires high school completion, First Aid & CPR certification, and the ability to lift 40–70 pounds.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• First Aid & CPR certification required.
• Ability to lift 40–70 pounds occasionally and perform physical tasks as listed in the job description.

Responsibilities

• Implement student-specific crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies with fidelity.
• Provide consistent and calm support during moments of emotional distress or behavioral crisis.
• Assist students with developing social-emotional learning (SEL) and coping skills; support use of sensory/safe space.
• Implement and monitor Positive Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs); collect daily behavior data.
• Collaborate with Special Education Teacher, School Psychologist, Counselor, Social Worker to support students.
• Ensure safety and confidentiality in all student interactions.
• Assist with IEP goals related to social, emotional, and academic development.
• Support curriculum access and classroom tasks with appropriate accommodations.
• Facilitate restorative practices and social skills groups.
• Support transitions to general education with scaffolding and emotional support.
