Job summary

The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South is seeking a part-time Early Learning Center Assistant Teacher. You will support supervision and activities for a group of children and work under the Center Director and Teacher to maintain a nurturing classroom environment.

Responsibilities include assisting with daily schedules, meals, parent reports, and ensuring compliance with state licensing. AHSSTARS training, first-aid and CPR certifications, and positive communication are essential.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• One or more years of experience working with children ages five years and younger.
• Current state approved first-aid certification.
• Current state approved infant/child CPR certification.
• TB test or signed statement showing negative results for tuberculosis
• Medical Physical Exam- Required by DHS
• Completion of minimum STARS required training
• Prefer knowledge of diverse populations and languages.
• Must meet all other required qualifications set by DHS - child care licensing

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom teachers and lead teachers in activities.
• Provide excellent and nurturing care to all children in the classroom.
• Plan and implement age-appropriate activities.
• Maintain rosters and help sign-in/out.
• Ensure daily schedule is followed.
• Complete daily parent reports and communication tools.
• Maintain stimulating and orderly spaces.
• Serve meals and snacks.
• Comply with risk management standards for safety.
• Communicate with parents about child experiences.
• Collaborate with team and participate in staff meetings.
• Assume duties assigned by supervisor.
