Job summary

YMCA of Greater Seattle is hiring a part-time Early Education assistant at our West Seattle location. You will work alongside the Lead Teacher to implement developmentally appropriate activities and support children's growth in a supportive environment.

Applicants should be 18+, have experience with young children, and complete required trainings (STARS, TB/MMR) before or soon after hire. The role offers a wage range of $22–$25 per hour DOE and access to YMCA benefits.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• Experience working with children in a similar age group.
• Completion of minimum STARS training.
• High school diploma or equivalent with 12 ECE credits within five years of hire.
• Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.
• Familiarity with diverse populations; second language helpful.
• Cleared MERIT background check.
• Pre-employment TB tests and MMR vaccination; Concentra options provided.
• Training to be completed by 60 days after hire.

Responsibilities

• Implements developmentally appropriate activities aligned with YMCA goals.
• Coordinates activities to support social, intellectual, and physical growth.
• Supervises groups to ensure safety and positive experiences.
• Completes observations with lead teacher for assessments.
• Maintains communication with families; may participate in conferences.
• Keeps family communication sheets updated.
• Follows YMCA policies, including safety and reporting procedures.
• Assists Lead teacher and covers during absences.
• Maintains classroom order and learning environment.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings.
