Job summary

Commonpoint Queens (Samuel Field YM and YWHA) seeks a Part-time Assistant Teacher to support the Early Childhood Center's curriculum and classroom environment for children ages 2–5. You will work with a Head Teacher and a teaching team, helping manage activities, records, and family communications.

The position offers part-time hours (up to 19 per week) on-site, with a focus on safety, development, and inclusive practice in a diverse community.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associates degree in Early Childhood Education preferred or 2+ years classroom experience with preschool children.
• Strong planning, observation and record-keeping skills.
• Basic knowledge of early childhood development and curricula.
• Bilingual ability is a plus (English/Spanish or English/Mandarin or Cantonese).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Group Teacher to provide a safe, healthy environment for development.
• Promote parent involvement through regular communication and meetings.
• Maintain current and confidential records on children and families.
• Demonstrate nurturing, respectful, trusting relationships with children and families.
• Assist in supervising an assigned group of children at all times.
• Complete assigned tasks and projects and participate in training opportunities.

Education

High School diploma

Associates degree in Early Childhood Education preferred

New York State Certified Teacher’s Assistant Credential desired

CPR/First Aid Certification preferred
