Community Living Direct Support Professional

This is a PT position with as needed working hours.

Are you patient, compassionate, and someone who genuinely enjoys helping others succeed?

ALULA is looking for a Community Living Support Specialist to join our team and help individuals with disabilities build confidence, learn new skills, become more independent, and participate in their communities.

This is more than a job—you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference in someone's everyday life. From helping someone learn to prepare a meal or manage money to supporting them at work, attending community activities, or developing new social skills, you'll be there to encourage, teach, and celebrate their progress.

?? What You'll Do

As a Community Living Support Specialist, you'll provide hands-on support, supervision, and training to residents in their homes and throughout the community.

  • Support individuals in developing and strengthening daily living, social, communication, adaptive, and vocational skills.
  • Help residents work toward their individual goals and celebrate their accomplishments along the way.
  • Teach and model skills that promote greater independence and confidence.
  • Encourage residents to participate in social, recreational, employment, and community activities.
  • Provide transportation to work, appointments, meetings, activities, and other community outings.
  • Help with everyday skills such as:
    • ?? Meal preparation
    • ?? Housekeeping
    • ?? Personal grooming and self-care
    • ?? Basic money management and transactions
    • ?? Community participation and transportation
  • Help residents navigate disagreements and develop positive ways to communicate and resolve conflicts.
  • Administer medications and complete required documentation, as trained and authorized.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to resident services and progress.
  • Participate in developing and implementing individual goals and support plans.
  • Communicate household, vehicle, and maintenance needs to the Residential Coordinator.
  • Build respectful and positive relationships with residents, families, caregivers, guardians, and community partners.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the individuals we serve.
  • Follow all ALULA policies, procedures, training requirements, and applicable regulations.
?? The Person We're Looking For

You don't need to have all the answers. What matters most is that you're someone who:

  • Cares about people and treats everyone with dignity and respect.
  • Is patient, positive, and encouraging.
  • Enjoys helping others learn and grow.
  • Can adapt when plans change and remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Is comfortable working independently while also being part of a team.
  • Can build trusting relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds and abilities.
  • Uses good judgment when balancing an individual's choices, independence, safety, and support needs.
  • Is willing to learn and continuously develop new skills.
  • Can communicate clearly through verbal, written, and computer-based communication.
  • Is dependable, responsible, and committed to following through.
?? Where You'll Work

Services are provided primarily in residential homes/group homes and throughout the community. You'll have the opportunity to help individuals experience meaningful activities and build connections beyond the walls of their home.

No two days are exactly alike—and that's part of what makes this work so rewarding!

?? Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on position. You should be able to:

  • Stand, walk, sit, stoop, bend, twist, and reach.
  • Push, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Safely enter and exit vehicles and assist residents as needed.
  • Work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments and weather conditions.
  • Maintain the physical mobility necessary to support residents safely.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

? What You'll Need
  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited school recognized by North Carolina, as applicable.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid driver's license.
    • If residing in North Carolina with an out-of-state license, a valid NC driver's license must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
  • Proof of personal automobile insurance, including company name and policy number.
  • Acceptable background check, motor vehicle record check, and sex offender registry check.
  • Ability to successfully complete and maintain required ALULA certifications and training.
?? Why This Work Matters

Every day, you'll have opportunities to help someone try something new, accomplish a goal, become more independent, or simply have a great day.

Sometimes success looks like learning a new skill. Sometimes it's getting out into the community. Sometimes it's a small step that leads to something much bigger.

If you're looking for work where what you do actually matters, we'd love to have you join our team.

Come help people discover what's possible. ??
