Job summary

EDG Inc. is seeking a part-time Distribution Design Technician II in Ridgeland to provide engineering design and estimating services for lighting projects, distribution design projects, and joint-use attachments.

The role supports utility clients and may involve reconductor, pole changeout, and feeder rebuild work. Responsibilities include running modeling software on poles, coordinating with regulatory bodies, and maintaining thorough documentation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or the equivalent is required.
• Associates degree in Electrical Technology or Engineering Technology (or similar discipline) required.
• More than one (1) with less than five (5) years experience in a position that directly relates to the responsibilities above required.
• Candidates with two (2) or more years directly related experience may be considered with the Associates Degree as preferred, not required.
• One year of on the job experience or formal training in a Graphic Tool design or electronic design software relating to the position or industry (e.g. GDT, Ike Pole-Foreman or Maximo) required.

• The ideal candidate will have course work or on the job exposure to areas of distribution design such as AC Voltage Generation, Impedance and Voltage Drop, Three Phase Power Systems, System Layout, Overhead Lines, Underground Distribution Systems, Substations, Distributed Generation, Substation Transformers, Distribution Transformers, Fault Interrupting Devices, Fundamentals of Protection and Overcurrent Protection
• The ideal candidate will have estimating experience;
• Must demonstrate the ability to understand codes and practices related to the position;
• Must demonstrate understanding and applying basic mathematics;
• Candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a diverse audience (customers, fieldworkers and management).

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed distribution designs and cost estimates tailored to customer needs and timelines on complex projects.
• Run modeling software on poles and equipment to determine wind loading for current and future conditions (GDT, Ike Pole-Foreman, Maximo).
• Coordinate with governmental regulatory bodies for planning and permitting on complex projects such as highway widenings, reconducting, and major feeder rebuilds.
• Perform field inspection duties including patrolling distribution lines to assess current state or future needs.
• Adhere to clients procedures and keep supervisor apprised of status, issues, and needs.
• Maintain good documentation and follow up on key activities.
• Facilitate interactions with external customers via phone, email, and meetings; provide records for major meetings (email).
• Update miscellaneous reports (ConstructionReport, etc.).
