Job summary

The Arc Eastern Connecticut in Groton, CT is seeking a part-time Direct Support Professional to support individuals with IDD in daily living, recreation, and community integration. The role includes training, transportation, meal prep, and helping participants achieve independence in a supportive environment.

You will work Sunday to Tuesday 2:00pm-8:00pm, Friday 2:00pm-10:00pm, Saturday 7:00am-3:00pm. Starting pay is $20.20 per hour with benefits including health and dental insurance, paid time

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with people who have developmental and physical disabilities preferred.
• Must have the ability to mentor and assist people in all areas of life skills including recreation, independence, communication, and health.
• Valid driver's license required.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Applicants must possess basic computer aptitude and be able to speak/write in English.

Responsibilities

• Deliver training, support, and assistance to participants in personal care, recreation and leisure, daily living skills, social skills, health needs, personal preferences, exercising of individual rights, community integration, and behavior management.
• Participate in the design, implementation and monitoring of the participant's individualized support plan.
• Accurately administer prescribed medications to participants as ordered by physicians.
• Accurately complete required documentation including program data, incident reports, daily log, progress notes, and health records.
• Ensure participants health and safety including prevention of abuse, perform CPR, First Aid, Heimlich, and evacuate participants in case of fire.
• Provide transportation to recreational and community activities.
• Prepare participants meals following published menus.
• Mentor and assist people in all life skills areas including recreation, independence, communication, and health.
