  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience in fundraising, development, marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a strong ability to build authentic relationships, and to engage comfortably and confidently in person with donors, board members, community partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Comfort using databases, spreadsheets, Google Workspace, and other technology; nonprofit CRM experience is a plus.

Family Reading Partners is a non-profit organization based in Orange County, NC, dedicated to fostering early literacy by empowering parents to support their children’s learning through shared reading and meaningful conversations. Our Home Visiting Program supports families with children from birth to kindergarten, providing quarterly visits where children receive books and educational toys, and parents receive guidance on activities and best practices to promote language and literacy development. These efforts aim to foster a love of reading, interactive play, and meaningful family connections.

To further our mission and support the organization’s continued growth and sustainability, we are seeking our first Development Director to lead and strengthen our fundraising and development efforts.

Position: Part-Time Development Director

Hours: Beginning at 20 hours per week, with the potential for increased hours based on organizational needs and performance. Includes occasional evening or weekend hours for events and donor meetings.

Compensation: Hourly rate of $25–$30, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Location: Partially remote position, with occasional in-person meetings, events, and regular in-office hours. The role requires the ability to travel within Orange County for work-related activities. Candidates should have reliable transportation, a stable home internet connection, and a suitable remote work environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Development Planning & Revenue Strategy
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop and implement an integrated development plan.
  • Set and monitor fundraising goals across multiple revenue streams, including individual giving, grants, corporate partnerships, events, major gifts, and planned giving.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to diversify and grow revenue.
  • Maintain accurate donor information and use the organization’s CRM and fundraising data to track performance, manage donor relationships, and inform strategy.
Donor Engagement & Fundraising
  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit, cultivate, solicit, and retain donors.
  • Build and steward relationships with donors, prospective donors, and other key supporters.
  • Plan, oversee, and evaluate fundraising campaigns and events to strengthen future efforts.
  • Support communications that engage and retain donors, including newsletters, social media, donor reports, and other outreach under the direction of the Executive Director.
Fundraising Capacity & Organizational Engagement
  • Develop internal communications, such as elevator pitches and talking points, to equip staff, Board, and volunteers to support fundraising and donor engagement.
  • Guide staff, Board, and volunteers on effective fundraising practices and strategies.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in fundraising, development, marketing, communications, or a related field.
