Job summary

City of Independence, Missouri is seeking a Part-Time Detention Officer to process individuals in the detention facility, manage intake, bookings, fingerprinting, and security. Responsibilities include coordinating bond/arraignment with courts and maintaining the facility, with meals and prisoner care provided as needed.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, with training in NIMS, CPR/First Aid/AED/LVNR within set timelines.

Qualifications

• Aptitude in record keeping, report preparation, computer applications and effective communication is desired.
• Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire and complete CPR, First Aid, AED and LVNR certification within three years.
• Knowledge of detention laws and ability to maintain order and security within the detention unit preferred.

Responsibilities

• Process intake of individuals into the Independence Police Detention facility.
• Book detainees, fingerprinting and searching detainees/prisoners; complete medical questionnaires.
• Monitor the detention area to provide safety and security for arrestees.
• Coordinate bonding and arraignment with Municipal/ State/ Federal Court; provide courts with proper documentation.
• Arrange meals and provisions for prisoners.
• Maintain the detention facility; clean cells; laundry; and supplies.
• Perform data entry of required records and reports.
• Inform the Detective Unit of felony arrests and arraignments and other duties as directed.
