Qualifications

  • Must have at least 15 years in law enforcement or related field.
  • Active TCOLE Peace Officer License; Basic license required.
  • Protect confidential information and maintain security.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Knowledge of Texas Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedures.
  • Proficient with video/AV equipment and computers.
  • Able to obtain a secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • View and gather information from video feeds across landside and waterside areas.
  • Compile and disseminate intelligence to agencies and military.
  • Assist with intelligence requests from agencies and military.
  • Maintain equipment assigned to the unit.
  • Complete and enter reports related to the assignment.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job description

THIS IS A PART-TIME TEMPORARY POSITION
THIS POSITION MAY END AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE NEEDS OF THE DEPARTMENT

The deputy will be part of a specialized unit responsible for monitoring and maintaining security on land and waterside areas of the Houston Ship Channel Security District under the general supervision of the HCSO SMAG Sergeant. The assignment will be inside the United States Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston building, located at 13411 Hillard St., Houston, Texas 77034
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Views, records, and gathers information from video feeds, which are strategically placed on the landside and waterside throughout the Houston Ship Channel Security District.
  • Compiles and disseminates intelligence gathered to the HCSO, other law enforcement agencies, and the military.
  • Assists the HCSO, other law enforcement agencies, and the military with intelligence requests.
  • Maintains equipment assigned to the SMAG unit.
  • Completes and enters reports associated with the assignment.
  • Performs other assignments and duties as required and/or necessary.

  • Must be an honorably retired Peace Officer.
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in law enforcement, record management, or a related field.
  • Must have an active TCOLE Peace Officer License.
  • Basic Peace Officer License (minimum).
  • Basic understanding of electronics, digital audio/video equipment.
  • Must protect sensitive/confidential information.
  • Must have an excellent attendance record.
Knowledge of:
  • The Texas Penal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedures.
  • Basic understanding of computers, electronics, and digital audio/video equipment.
Skilled In:
  • Demonstration of proficiency in the use of Superion/ARS, JWEB, JOTS, and other computer programs.
  • Superion/ARS, JWEB, JOTS, and be able to submit Superion or other reports you completed.
Ability to:
  • Obtain a secret clearance through the Department of Homeland Security. Any credit issues or judgments will disqualify a person.
  • For call-out assignments or extended duty hours in case of an emergency.
  • Maintain professional relationships with HCSO, other law enforcement agencies, and the military.
  • Communicate via radio, telephone, email, and text message (Bridge4PS platform) with personnel assigned to the HCSO Marine Division, the City of Houston, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the United States Coast Guard who patrol the Houston Ship Channel.
  • Accept, attend, and complete additional training associated with this assignment.
  • Work the day shift, evening shift, or night shift.
  • Previous patrol/investigative assignment
  • Advanced understanding of video and computers and must be able to demonstrate advanced understanding
  • Bilingual
  • Currently hold or have held a secret clearance

This is a part-time temporary position without benefits.
Hours:
  • A minimum of 20 hours per week with a maximum of 30 hours per week.
