Job summary

Parkland College is seeking a part-time Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) / ATF Assistant in Champaign, IL. The role focuses on test administration, inspection, documentation, and facility support within the Accredited Testing Facility, under AWS guidelines.

It is a non-instructional, on-campus position with an hourly rate and no teaching duties. You will ensure compliance, manage testing workflows, and assist with equipment calibration and safety procedures as part of the Welding Faculty

Qualifications

• Must hold current AWS CWI credential in good standing.
• Proficient in interpreting AWS D1.1 Structural Steel and reading blueprints and WPS.
• Ability to stand for extended periods (4–6 hours) while proctoring tests.
• Able to lift and move metal plates, pipes, and testing fixtures up to 50 lbs.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills to explain results.

Responsibilities

• Test administration, certification, and adherence to AWS requirements.
• Perform formal visual inspections (VT) of welds, root passes, and test samples.
• Enforce strict chain-of-custody for test materials.
• Operate testing equipment to prepare specimens and perform mechanical tests with guidance.
• Complete technical inspection reports and WPQR records accurately.
• Maintain welding lab safety and testing equipment.
