Perform a variety of custodial duties to maintain clean, safe, functional, and welcoming facilities. Duties include, but are not limited to, sweeping, mopping, dusting, sanitizing surfaces, vacuuming, carpet cleaning, stripping and waxing floors, cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, washing windows, climbing ladders, and moving furniture and equipment.
Complete routine daily responsibilities independently and notify the supervisor of maintenance concerns, safety hazards, needed repairs, or supply needs. Provide courteous and helpful service to students, employees, visitors, and the public. Refer special requests to the supervisor, director, or designee for approval before proceeding.
Constant (67-100%)
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, replenish dispensers, and empty waste and recycling receptacles.
- Clean classrooms and empty waste and recycling receptacles.
- Clean offices and lounges and empty waste and recycling receptacles.
- Clean hallways, stairwells, and other common areas.
- Clean laundry facilities and empty waste and recycling receptacles.
- Clean elevators, including doors, tracks, and surrounding areas.
- Open and secure assigned buildings in accordance with established procedures.
- Clean interior and exterior entrance areas and empty waste and recycling receptacles.
- Monitor assigned areas and respond promptly to cleaning or safety concerns.
Frequent (34–66%)
- Clean ceiling vents and light fixtures.
- Replace light bulbs and ceiling tiles as needed and as authorized.
- Clean furniture in offices, classrooms, lounges, and common areas.
- Assist with setting up, rearranging, and taking down furniture and equipment for meetings, classes, and events.
- Wash interior and exterior windows as assigned.
- Deliver mail and other materials to designated campus locations.
Occasional (10–33%)
- Strip and wax hard-surface floors.
- Shampoo and extract carpeted areas.
- Clean storage rooms, custodial areas, and mechanical rooms.
- Move furniture, supplies, and equipment.
- Assist with special cleaning projects and other facility-related duties as assigned.

- Maintain current knowledge of the methods, procedures, equipment, and products required to perform assigned custodial duties safely and effectively.
- Complete assigned work thoroughly, accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with established cleanliness and safety standards.
- Maintain assigned areas in a clean, orderly, safe, and welcoming condition for students, employees, and visitors. Adjust priorities as needed when interruptions or urgent cleaning concerns arise.
- Work independently, demonstrate initiative, and identify areas needing attention before concerns are reported. Use sound judgment when addressing routine problems and notify the appropriate supervisor when additional direction or assistance is needed.
- Represent Iowa Central Community College professionally and positively when interacting with students, employees, visitors, vendors, and community members. Communicate respectfully and work cooperatively with other custodial and College employees.
- Demonstrate punctuality, dependability, flexibility, organization, and the ability to meet deadlines. Adapt productively to changing assignments, schedules, priorities, and operational needs.
- Follow all safety procedures and use custodial chemicals, supplies, tools, and equipment properly. Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, needed repairs, and workplace incidents to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality and professionalism when working in offices, classrooms, and other College facilities.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Custodial, housekeeping, facilities, or related work experience is preferred.
Relevant postsecondary education or training is also desirable.
The successful candidate must be able to complete all required pre-employment screenings, including a physical examination, drug screening, and criminal background check.
