Job summary

James Barry-Robinson Institute in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Part-Time Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) to plan, implement, and evaluate therapeutic activities for youth aged 11–17 within a residential treatment setting.

Responsibilities include managing a caseload, facilitating activities, documenting progress, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to promote social and emotional wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Active CTRS certification or eligible (CTRS, BC-MT, or equivalent).
• Minimum 2 years’ experience with children or adolescents preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience facilitating small group interventions, large-scale activities, and community partnerships.
• Experience in behavioral or mental health settings is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of residents and document progress toward treatment goals.
• Plan and facilitate purposeful recreational activities for groups to support socio-emotional development.
• Maintain thorough documentation of client progress and responses to interventions.
• Collaborate with colleagues and participate in professional development opportunities.
• Foster a fun, engaging, and therapeutic environment for residents.
