Ottawa County in Hudsonville, MI is seeking a part-time Court Security Officer to enforce courtroom rules and maintain orderly proceedings. Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with post-secondary training; 2+ years in court security or related office work.
• Working knowledge of Michigan Court Rules.
• Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies.
• Satisfactory work history and personal background.
• Working knowledge of security practices and procedures.
• Ability to interact professionally with judges, officers of the court, attorneys, victims, and the public.
• Verbal and/or reading comprehension of minority languages preferred.

Responsibilities

• Open the courtroom and secure it for proceedings; secure at end of day.
• Direct parties to proper areas; provide schedule and procedural information.
• Assist litigants and visitors with forms and directions around the courthouse.
• Call cases into court and announce the judge's entrance.
• Call witnesses, administer oaths, and escort/sequester as needed.
• Escort jurors to/from courtroom and administer oaths as required.
• Assist the judge in maintaining courtroom order.
• Monitor courtroom and coordinate with Sheriff's Department for additional security.
• Escort defendants and other litigants to/from the courtroom and assist with paperwork.
• Escort offenders to Clerk's Office or Probation as needed for paperwork.
