Job summary

The City of Casper Municipal Court is seeking a part-time Court Security Officer to maintain a safe and secure environment for judges, staff, defendants and the public. The role offers 20 hours or fewer per week and a visible security presence during court proceedings and City Council meetings.

Ideal candidates have law enforcement, detention, courtroom, or security experience. Responsibilities include screening for weapons, monitoring spaces, assisting attendees, and providing courteous service

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associates degree in criminal justice, legal studies, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of one year experience in law enforcement or security or equivalent.
• P.O.S.T. certification within the last year or related training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide visible security presence for the courtroom, City Council meetings and work sessions; assess threats and remove disruptive individuals.
• Operate screening devices to detect concealed weapons and hazardous objects; inspect handbags, briefcases, etc.
• Monitor courtrooms and meeting spaces; intervene to prevent escalation of problems.
• Identify individuals in custody with scheduled appearances.
• Answer questions for defendants, the public, attorneys and others; assist as needed.
• May provide clerical support: copy documents, file, enter data, and provide customer service.
