Job Description

The City of Kettering is recruiting for a regular part-time Court Security Officer. Responsible for maintaining security within the City of Kettering Court Building for court officials and for those customers utilizing court related services. This position is up to 28 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening hours. The schedule may fluctuate to cover backups if needed. Duties include inspecting persons and belongings entering the court using magnetometers and scanners, directing individuals, and performing other related duties. Officers must be in uniform and armed. The position reports to the Support Services Sergeant.

• Ability to organize and maintain a secure court environment
• Effective interaction with the public and court officials
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to operate screening equipment and learn security procedures
• Ability to recognize and react to stressful situations
• Knowledge of firearm and defense techniques, ability to qualify to carry a weapon
• Physical fitness to perform duties
• Computer skills
• Preferred: Law enforcement experience, Ohio Peace Officer certification, valid Ohio Driver's License
• Must be at least 21 years old

Compensation and Benefits

Pay range: $25.15 to $32.37 per hour, with prorated leave benefits. Entry rate depends on experience and abilities.
