Job summary

Dept of Corrections at Lawrenceville Correctional Center is seeking a Part-time Physician II to deliver professional medical care and medication management for the offender population. The role operates with nursing support and emphasizes evidence-based practice within a multidisciplinary health services team.

Wage position is capped at 1,500 hours per agency annually (May 1–April 30) with a 29-hour weekly limit and no state benefits. Experience in correctional settings is preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited medical college.
• Completion of an approved residency in a primary care specialty.
• Licensed to practice medicine in Virginia (VA).
• Extensive knowledge of diagnosing and treating injuries, diseases, and DSM criteria.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional medical care and medication management to offenders with nursing staff support.
• Analyze patient histories, symptoms, and diagnostics to diagnose and treat conditions.
• Prescribe medications and interventions based on efficacy, safety, and cost.
• Educate patients on self-management and collaborate with the health services team.
