Job summary

Wellmark, Inc. is seeking a part-time Corporate Security Specialist for our Des Moines, Iowa office. The role includes on-site patrols, monitoring security systems, and coordinating with emergency services to maintain a safe environment.

You will work with the security team to deter threats, respond calmly to incidents, and support day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate has foundational security experience, strong communication, and a willingness to learn and grow in corporate security.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree preferred.
• 2+ years in a security role, preferably corporate.
• Experience in risk assessment and emergency response.
• Conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.
• Familiarity with emergency medical protocols (AED) and crisis response.
• Ability to follow procedures in high-pressure situations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Axon certification required or achievable within 6 months.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular patrols of company premises to ensure safety and security of assets, facilities, and personnel.
• Monitor access control, surveillance, and alarm systems.
• Respond to security incidents or emergencies with defined defensive tactics.
• Perform risk assessments and report potential vulnerabilities.
• Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
• Maintain detailed records of security activities and incidents.
• Ensure compliance with security policies and industry standards.
• Provide security support for events and training as needed.
• Support internal departments and external personnel in incident response.
